Set sail with the BrassGears Adventurers Society for a meal and a voyage on the Titanic. We will dine on food that evokes the ambiance of the luxury (or not!) of that famous ship. Our passengers will provide the meal, so you are asked to sign up to bring one of the dishes listed below. (Each passenger is responsible for an item from the list for this "potluck".) The menu is a mix of food served in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd classes. We will plan to begin dining at 1:00 pm on Sunday, April 16th, so plan to arrive about 12:30 to get the buffet table set up. There are kitchen facilities available. We will be setting sail from the Southgate Masonic Lodge located at 1111 Randolph St., Des Moines, IA We would love to see you dressed for the occasion, whether you are sailing 1st, 2nd, or 3rd class. (Although we insist that you NOT come as a frozen, drowned person! We are celebrating the days of ocean travel, not the sad tragedy.) Plans are to have live music, maybe not a string quartet, but a string duo to entertain us. There may be singing and dancing, too! We will have a "free will" tip jar to help defray the expense of renting the venue, and the musicians will likely put out tip baskets, also. Otherwise your only "fare" on this voyage is your contribution to the meal. Please RSVP (with your choice of menu items) by April 8th. If you have questions or need recipes, please ask in the discussion section, and we'll try to help you. Menu items: French onion soup, Barley or vegetable soup, Turkey with cranberries, Chicken Lyonnaise, Beef Stew, Jacket (baked) potatoes, Green peas, Creamed carrots, Turnip puree, Peaches in Chartreuse jelly (peaches in lime Jello), Macedoine de fruits (fruit salad), Waldorf salad (or Waldorf pudding), Bread and butter (bread basket, rolls), Ice cream and cake, Punch, Coffee, Tea, Sparkling cider. Sorry, no alcohol in the Lodge.
